Thursday 26th April 2006, time 7pm and NGONI fans were already braving the evening downpour to go and watch their idols perform for the first time ever on what has become a showcase for the cream of Ugandan Artistes that takes place every last thursday of the month at Club silk lounge.
For those that were sceptical about NGONI's ability to sing alongside live instrumentation, they were to be surprised later on, in the show that the brothers have come a long way and have mastered the art of live peformance.
Time-check, 8.30pm and JEKAKI band opened up the act with their own beautiful reggae and afrobeat songs.After their fourth song,the M.C Kenlove announced that it was time for the long-awaited peformance and NGONI leapt onto stage,kicking off their peformance with an RnB instrumental that trannscended into one of their favourite hits, NAKUPENDA. Backed by Benon (Benon and Vamposs) and Prisca (formerly of Dream Girls), they worked the crowd singing songs like DIGI...(as usual, they twisted it around and featured VAMPOSS and BABY G), BANACITY (in a reggae rendition), SUNITA, ROSE, MIMI NA WEWE, BLACK YELLOW RED (which was according to fan's response, the song of the night), BIGULA, AMATEEKA G'OMUKWAANO before finally crowning the night with NASIIMA GWE, the title track off their first album.
Joining them on stage were the TCK dancers (yes,them cuties that grace the NGONI videos with their waist wiggling!!) who specially got the fans running wild when they danced Bakisimba (a tradiional kiganda dance) when NGONI switched Banacity from reggae to kadongokamu!!
Time-check, 10.45pm and NGONI stepped off the stage after giving their fans a two hour sizzling peformance that will always be memorable.
